Hebron Youth Directions

Our Purpose
Based in Thailand, Hebron Youth Directions is dedicated to supporting the Burmese people, who continue to suffer under a brutal military regime. Decades of conflict against Myanmar’s ethnic minorities escalated following the 2021 military coup, forcing thousands more to flee their homes. Many have sought refuge at the Thai border near Mae Sot, where long-standing refugee camps are now at capacity, leaving countless displaced people stranded in the jungle with little hope for the future.

Located in the heart of Mae Sot, Hebron Youth Directions provides direct support to these vulnerable communities on both sides of the border, offering relief, education, and opportunities to help them rebuild their lives.
Since the military coup in Myanmar on February 1, 2021, the country has faced severe humanitarian crises. As of January 31, 2025:
6,200
civilians, including pro-democracy activists, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups.
20,000
political prisoners have been subjected to unfair trials and harsh sentences.
3.5mil
people have been internally displaced due to ongoing armed conflicts and military operations.
55,000
civilian buildings, including homes, schools, and religious sites have been destroyed by the Myanmar military.
The People
Hebron Youth Directions is dedicated to supporting displaced youth seeking refuge, but the reality is that entire families often need urgent help. Many arrive at the border with nothing—no food, shelter, medical care, or hope for the future. Even within the refugee camps, life is restrictive and uncertain, with little chance of stability while they wait for change in their homeland.
The hardships they face go beyond displacement. Mental health struggles, alcohol abuse, suicide, trafficking, and physical and sexual violence are widespread, as vulnerable people often become targets for exploitation.
At Hebron Youth Directions, we are committed to providing more than just relief—we offer acceptance, counselling with Christian values, challenging discrimination, welcoming diversity and offering medical aid, protection, and practical skills to help young people build successful, independent futures.
Our Mission
The mission of Hebron Youth Directions is centred on youth development, addressing immediate physical needs first to provide a foundation for long-term growth. Our base acts as a central hub for food distribution, supplying both displaced people on the Thai side of the border and those hiding in the jungle. We also provide essential items such as tarps, blankets, medical supplies, and clothing. In addition, we assist with housing where possible, often partnering with other aid organisations in the region.

We run regular intake programs for youth, offering intensive, one-month therapeutic sessions and activities to help them transition into a new phase of life. Counselling supports them in addressing past trauma and emotional struggles, while personal consultations help map out plans for living conditions, education, employment, and personal development.

Life skills and work ethics are a key focus, with practical instruction on topics like budgeting and finance. Our gym is also a vital part of the program, offering self-defence classes to empower vulnerable young people—especially girls—against exploitation and abuse. This class is in high demand and is extended to local migrant schools.

In addition, we provide opportunities to enhance English language skills, which open up better employment options and opportunities for resettlement. Our fully operational café/bakery plays a crucial role in both funding our programs and teaching youth valuable work skills that can lead to future career prospects.
